About Us

Welcome to NINE TERRAINS! If you have found us by sheer luck or have been directed here by your friend (with impeccable taste) this section is for you.  Here's a quick breakdown of who we are and what we do.
 
Who are you?
 
NINE TERRAINS are a rock band from South Wales.  We have written, recorded and produced all of our songs from a small converted bedroom.

There are 2 co-authors of NINE TERRAINS - Andrew and Hannah - a brother/sister combo who have written all of the songs.

We have recorded everything you hear live - there are no drum machines etc. used in the making of our songs. Andrew records guitars, bass and vocals. Hannah records guitars, drums, bass, piano and vocals.

 What kind of music can I expect from you?

We are essentially a rock band.  Riff styles commonly used in metal music have been adapted to contrast with lighter piano or accoustic sections.  Songs typically follow a progression where elements are added to bring a song to a crecendo.

You can expect a pretty varied repetoire from NINE TERRAINS.

1.  We vary our sound through instrumentation: We fuse heavier styles of music, such as rock and metal, with softer guitar parts or classically influenced piano parts.  We also have added orchestral parts to some songs/ instrumentals to make the song sound more like a film score.

2.  Another way we vary sound is through vocals: Some vocals are performed by Andrew and other by Hannah, depending on whether we feel the song benefits from a male or female voice,

3.  We vary our sound through genre:  Some songs are much heavier than other eg 'A Fool May Go Where Angels Fear' is a much heavier song than 'Cold Here in Your Shadow' - both are very evocative and dramatic - a theme that runs through our album.
